About Franz Josef

Located on the West Coast of the South Island of New Zealand, the small town of Franz Josef is located close to the terminal face of the Franz Josef Glacier. This is one of the world's most accessible glaciers, a 12km (7.5mi) long frozen river that starts in the Southern Alps and descends to just 300m above sea level. Visit Franz Josef Glacier with a guided tour or take a short walk to its face. The West Coast Wildlife Centre in Franz Josef is also worth a visit.
