Where do we go on the boat cruise?
During your dolphin seeking cruise you’ll explore the Bay of Islands and head out past the Cape Brett Peninsula and to the Hole in the Rock on Motukokako Island. If conditions permit, your skipper will guide the boat through the hole. You’ll also enjoy an island stopover on Urupukapuka Island (between 9 October and 30 April only) where you can relax on the beach or enjoy a short walk to the top of the island for spectacular panoramic views of the region.
What happens if we can’t cruise through the Hole in the Rock because of bad weather?
Our expert skipper will decide on the day if weather and sea conditions are ideal for cruising through the Hole in the Rock. If you’re unable to cruise through the Hole, we’ll get you as close as possible. No refund will be given if you’re unable to cruise through the Hole.
Which wildlife will I see?
You’ll have the chance to see dolphins, whales, seals, penguins and birdlife on your cruise. Our specially designed boat has indoor and outdoor seating and the largest outdoor viewing deck in the Bay of Islands, so you won’t miss a thing!
Will I get a refund if we don’t see any dolphins?
If we're unsuccessful in viewing dolphins or whales on your cruise, we’ll offer you a 'go again for free' voucher for another cruise only.
Can I do this tour if I get sea sick?
Yes you can, but we recommend you take preventative measures, like sea sickness or motion sickness medication before leaving Paihia. Our cruise operates in the sheltered water of the Bay of Islands however as we cruise out further into the open ocean, sea conditions can vary.
Can I buy food on the boat?
Yes, food is available to buy on the boat.
Can I do this tour with my baby?
Yes, young children and babies can join this tour.
Does this tour include meals?
No, meals are not included. Your tour includes a short morning tea and afternoon tea break and you can buy lunch in Paihia before your cruise.

Can I be picked up and dropped off at my accommodation?

Can I eat and drink on board the bus?
Yes, you can eat cold food and cold drinks on board the bus. We don’t allow hot drinks or food for safety reasons.
Can I bring my bags with me?
You can bring one carry-on item with a maximum weight of 5kg and store check-in luggage under the bus.
Can I get a refund if I cancel my tour?
No, our day tours are non-refundable.
How do I book a tour with my pass?
Booking a day tour using your FlexiPass or TravelPass bus pass is a slightly different process. First, you need to make sure you’re logged in to your pass. On your pass dashboard, click on the ‘Tours’ button and follow the instructions to book your tour.
What happens if my tour is cancelled due to bad weather?
If your day tour is cancelled for any reason, we’ll contact you to discuss your options. These will include a transfer to the next available service, or a refund of your fare.
