About Whitianga

If you're looking for a place to stay on the Coromandel Peninsula, Whitianga is a great option for families and independent travellers. The small resort town is located in beautiful Mercury Bay (named by Captain Cook in 1769) and has everything you need, from supermarkets and shopping to a range of dining options, and plenty of things to do.

Go swimming, fishing or sailing from Buffalo Beach, go kayaking, visit beautiful Cathedral Cove, take the Whitianga ferry to Ferry Landing and explore Cooks Beach and other neighouring beaches.

If you're visiting in September, make sure you book your Whitianga accommodation well in advance - the popular Whitianga Scallop Festival fills the town with foodies ready to feast on local seafood, wines and boutique products.
