InterCity is pleased to announce the return of services on the reopened State Highway 1 north of Kaikoura from 18 December onwards. From this date we'll once again be operating morning and afternoon services in both directions between Picton and Christchurch.
As well as doubling frequency between Picton and Christchurch, the services will allow InterCity passengers to travel from Picton to Dunedin in one day. Even better, our premium GOLD seats will also be available along the route!
If you're travelling to and from Nelson, you'll be able to connect in Blenheim. We've doubled capacity along this route to make sure there are enough seats over the busy summer peak season.
Our current morning-only inland service via Springs Junction and Hanmer Springs will finish operating on 17 December.
Ongoing roadworks and stop/go signs on SH1 will affect travel times, and the new timetables have been adjusted to reflect this. We've temporarily removed some smaller suburban stops in Christchurch to ensure our services run on time. We'll continue to review timetables and stops as travel times along SH1 improve.
Services are available to book now for travel from 18 December onwards.
Bus services between Kaikoura and Christchurch will continue as follows until 17 December, when they will be replaced by twice-daily services (see above).
Unfortunately due to the road conditions north of Kaikoura, services between Kaikoura and Picton remain cancelled until 18 December. If you're wanting to travel between Kaikoura and Picton before then, the best way is to stay overnight in Christchurch.
You can still book travel between Nelson and Christchurch on the inland road until 17 December. This involves transferring onto a connecting bus at Murchison.
Morning services between Christchurch and Picton (8707 & 8712) will continue to travel via the Lewis Pass until 17 December. Please note that we are not offering pickups on 8712 south of Blenheim, or on 8707 north of Waipara.
Services 8708 and 8711 between Christchurch and Picton will start again on 18 December (see above).
Our 8701 and 8715 Nelson to Picton services have been combined into one service departing Nelson at 9.15am.
This means a shorter wait in Picton for passengers continuing to Wellington by ferry.
