About Palmerston North

Palmerston North is one of the country’s largest provincial cities and is often referred to as “Palmy” by the locals. The city is situated on the eastern Manuwatu Plains, near the north bank of the Manawatu River.

The city is filled with buildings constructed from the 1920’s and 1930’s, which are being used as boutiques, cafes and restaurants today.

Located near the city is the largest generating wind farm in the southern hemisphere. The wind farm powers over 30,000 homes and use a total of 158 turbines located in the Tararua and Ruahine Ranges.

The Te Apiti wind farm offers a look out where you can get up close to one of the gigantic turbines and view the surreal view into the horizon. This is completely free and is a fantastic option for those that are after a perfect photo opportunity.
