Meet, cuddle & bond with our curiously cute Alpacas!
A Shamarra Alpaca Farm Tour is an unparalleled opportunity to get up close and personal with alpacas, learn about this loving animal, and create some memories with friends and family in a stunning location.
You’ll find your new furry friends here at Shamarra Alpacas, home to a herd of 170 alpacas in a beautiful harbour on the slopes of an extinct volcano and overlooked by craggy volcanic hills.
Shamarra Alpacas is only an hour’s drive from Christchurch, and a scenic 20 minute trip from the historic seaside village of Akaroa.
Our panoramic views of Akaroa harbour and the rolling hills and peaks of the surrounding valleys are breath-taking, and will make every one of your selfies with an alpaca post-worthy. This is no ordinary trip to an alpaca farm.

We hope you will come back and visit again one day! Glad to hear you had a great experience.
Having never heard of Shamarra Alpacas, we were a little unsure of what to expect, we thoroughly enjoyed meeting and feeding the alpacas, the staff were all lovely and friendly, and clearly very passionate about their work. I cannot recommend Shamarra Alpacas highly enough! Thank you again for a wonderful experience.
We are delighted you had an enjoyable time at our farm Chris. The staff will appreciate you noticing their passion and friendliness. Our alpaca are rather spoilt with all the cuddles they receive and the stunning views over the Akaroa Harbour. 🦙
Honestly, I had such a neat experience here. Definitely one to tick of the bucket list. Tour guides were really lovely and catering. I appreciated one of the guides picking us up from down the hill as our car wouldn't of made it up the steep hill. Learning about the alpacas was really fascinating and of course, may favorite was getting to cuddle the alpacas and feed them! Thank you for such a wonderful experience and I can't wait to come back again soon 💗
Thank you Annie for your review of your recent visit to our farm. We are thrilled you had a fabulous time interacting with our alpaca. Do come visit again sometime and get more cuddles and awesome photos.
The best!!! Highly recommended!! 👏👏👏
We appreciate your comments Jojemarie. Our alpacas enjoy showcasing their quirky personalities alongside our paramount views to all our visitors.🦙. We do value your 5 star reveiw.
Thank you Petranella for your review. We are delighted you enjoyed yourselves at our farm and found the presentation from the tour guide informative. I do believe our alpaca have some of the most scenic views in the world, looking out over the Akaroa Harbour. Do visit again sometime soon!

So cute!
Loved our visit! We were little nervous at first as we didn’t realise how friendly the alpacas were. Once we understood we didn't want to leave! The workers were fantastic showing us how to approach the aplacas, touch them and even which ones we can hug. We had so much fun and went away wanting to return some day. Thanks!
