Experience the magic of Whenuakura (Donut) Island as you paddle through the entrance and into the stunning turquoise lagoon!
Join our experienced guides on a kayaking adventure that will take you into the stunning Whenuakura Island or Donut Island.
After a safety briefing, you will paddle from the beach approximately 30 minutes to a cave-like entrance that opens up into a beautiful lagoon surrounded by native fauna in the centre of the island.
Enjoy the views of unspoiled nature from your kayak as the island is a Wild Life Sanctuary that is off-limits to people landing on it.
We then head towards Hauturu Island to enjoy a cup of Kawakawa tea and visit some more locations of interest before heading back to shore. Your guide will be on hand to share their local knowledge and ensure the safety of all participants.

Hi there! During certain moments and conditions, paddling all the way to the middle of the lagoon can be a challenge due to low tide and waves. As the tunnel is the deepest part of the island, we at times keep customers there to avoid being pushed against rocks. Thanks for joining us! SurfSup team
We had a great time, heading into caves we would not have tackled without an expert guiding and keeping us safe. Our guide managed to make us feel safe as we tackled some interestingly large waves. He rerouted so that we reversed the normal trip, allowing us to use the shelter of the island to make the waves smaller as we headed into wind.
Booked 4 people onto this experience. Staff friendly, maybe a bit too laid back! Equipment in good order, I'm not sure on the deluxe part, but had a good time kayaking to Donut Island, not much to do at the stop part and got a little cold waiting to set off again back to starting point. Intermediate fitness required for this, especially against the wind.
A fun hands on way to learn more about the Whangamatā islands with a great tour guide.
Awesome experienced. I fully enjoyed it.

Kayak trip
Friendly informative guides. Kayaked out to the doughnut Island . Unfortunately got to see very little inside the sanctuary as we were told to spin our canoe before we had even reached the middle and could only really see the roof of the cave .
