About Gisborne

The easternmost city in New Zealand, Gisborne is famous for its sunny weather and excellent surf beaches. It was here in 1769 that Captain James Cook first set foot on New Zealand soil. 'Gizzy', as it's known to Kiwis, is a popular holiday spot, especially over summer when the Rhythm and Vines New Year's Festival brings in the crowds.

Head to Wainui Beach for a spot of surf, enjoy a tipple at local vineyards, breweries and cider houses, or visit the East Cape lighthouse where a steep walk will reward you with amazing views.
