Auckland is the largest city in New Zealand and contains a third of the total population. Known as the ‘City of Sails’, it is situated on a narrow isthmus between the Hauraki Gulf and Manukau Harbour. In fact, it is one of the few cities in the world to have harbours on two separate major bodies of water, the Pacific Ocean and the Tasman Sea.
With a diverse natural landscape including rainforest ranges situated to the west and dormant volcanic cones spread all around the region, there are plenty of stunning sights to visit and take in. Must-do activities include the Auckland Zoo, Kelly Tarlton's Sea Life Aquarium, the Auckland Museum, Waiheke Island, frozen yoghurt at Mission Bay and of course a trip up the iconic SkyTower.
